David Harte
Davey is one of the top young keepers out there on a world stage and we are very excited to have in involved in the SOS.
Rather than attempting to sum up Davey’s undoubted talent SOS has sat down and interviewed him… read below for all the details on our star man!
Name: David Harte
Age: 21
DOB: 03/04/1988
Weight: 93kg
Height: 6ft 5'
Sponsor: Tk
Started Hockey: Age 13
Started Goal Keeping: Age 14
Reason for becoming a GK: Didn't like all the running outfield :)
Clubs: Cork Harlequins, Pembroke Wanderers, SCHC (Holland)
First Senior Cap: Vs France in Paris in 2006.
Current Caps: 58
50th Cap: In World Cup Qualifier Argentina Vs Belgium.
Tournaments Attended: Celtic Cup (France, Wales, Cork),
Setanta Trophy (Dublin),
Champions Challenge II (Dublin),
Olympic Qualifier (New Zealand),
Samsung 4 Nations (Chile),
European A Division (England),
European B Division (Wales),
World Cup Qualifier (Argentina).
Teams Played against: England, Scotland, Wales, Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic, Argentina, Chile, Canada, USA, Trinidad and Tobago, New Zealand, Pakistan, China, Malaysia, Japan, Russia, Belarus, South Africa, Egypt.
Best Moment to date: Drawing 1-1 with Spain (World No. 3) in opening game of European Cup 2007 making over 12 saves. Winning the European Trophy in Wales to gain promotion back into the A Division in Germany 2011.
Worst Moment to date: Olympic Qualifier New Zealand needing to beat Argentina by 2 clear goals to get to the final to play for the one ticket to Beijing. Winning only 1-0, keeping a clean sheet against the world No. 7 but at that time such a mixture of emotions winning but knowing it wasn't enough to go through.
Scariest Moment to date: In Manchester 2007 at the European Cup facing Taeke Takema in my 9th cap. Did manage to save his first flick but he scored the second :(
Personal View on Goalkeepers: I believe we are the most important players on the pitch. We are the only players able to guarantee at least a draw in a match keeping a clean sheet.
Best Save: Making a save in the top right corner against Xavier Ribas of Spain from one of his trademark drag flicks to keep the game at see it out at 1-1.
Future Ambitions: To play professionally for a club in Europe, to get 100 caps for Ireland and to qualify for a major tournament like the Olympics and World Cup with Ireland.
