Shut Out School - Keepers.
What can we do to help you be a rock star between the pipes?
Well for a start we can look at how you move, footwork footwork and you guessed it …footwork. We know it’s an old chestnut but it really is important.
Positioning, there’s not a one size fits all solution, let us help you recognize when you should be standing tall near your goal line and when you can start closing down and changing your stance.
Keepers wear a lot of kit, it’s cool! (Unless it’s preseason then it’s usually hot!) Let us help you work on using it to its fullest, kickers are a given but what about your leg guards? Do you know when and how to use them best? Upright and on the ground?
Glove saves, all of us love a bit of flash don’t we! We’ll show you how to make people go ‘ooooh and ahhhhh!’
What about the bits that aren’t foam?
Chest protectors and shorts, perfectly good areas to make saves with. Plus they tend to prevent getting hit somewhere that it hurts!
Then there’s the tricky stuff…
1v1’s do they just occur at the top of the circle? Think about it, we can show you how to close down, upright block, side and smother dangerous situations.
Communication with defenders, how many times have you been told it’s important? How many times have you been told what you should say? When? And what the desired outcome is? We’ll take you through some simple scenarios to help build up confidence in your communication skills.
Set pieces, how to set up your penalty corner defense. Stand up or go down? We’ll show you when it’s appropriate to do both.
Shut Out School - Coaches.
A Goalkeeper is only 1/11 of a team but they can make a much bigger contribution.
Keepers need a totally different skill set from outfield players, so to do goalkeeping coaches. Can you imagine a NFL team having one coach for all positions?
At the shutout school we recognize that it’s not always possible to have a specialised keeper coaches on your staff.
Our solutions?
Well, we have two:
1. You come to us.
During our camps and clinics we’ll be running coaching workshops where we will breakdown our curriculum helping you to cast an analytical eye over your keepers, identify what needs work and then implementing the right trainings to get the best from your keeper.
2.We come to you.
Yep, we’ll pack up our gear and get the GPS out and make our way to you!
This is a much more in depth approach, we’ll work with your program on an individual basis, tailoring our curriculum to maximize our time with you. The clinic will cover all elements from physical conditioning, communication, using video analysis and everything in between to help get the most out of your keeper Typically we’d start the day by identifying the base level of skill and from this point we will work through a series of core skills supplementing this content with key areas we have identified During all coaching we’ll be utilizing video analysis allowing both keeper and coach to pinpoint key areas of development. After the day is done we want to leave you with tools and the confidence to coach your keeper for the season ahead. These programs are totally bespoke to your program, please contact us to discuss what we can do for you.
Shut Out School - Curriculum.
Our aim is to offer a level of skill progression through all our sessions.
Every practice will be different depending on the needs of the keepers present. Not only assess a keeper's current strengths and weaknesses we will supply them with an action plan that is both immediately relevant but will put them on a pathway to future development.
We will supply them with the confidence and knowledge to take ownership of their own development as a keeper.
How will we do all this?
Ball machines are fun, in fact they are just plain awesome! They offer a consistent result allowing repetition of skills and we can work on those diving camera saves keepers love to make. Rebound boards, deflection mats and other goodies Using video analysis we can show you exactly what we see, it’s an essential Seriously, we make the field players jealous.
At our events we will have the latest equipment from TK available for you to use and get familiar with. We can advise keepers and coaches on what is best for you.
Typical curriculum items:

1 v 1’s
They occur all over the circle, upright and blocking on the ground. How and when to go to ground and what to do when you are down there.
Getting up.
What goes down has to get back up. We’ll show you the best way to pop back up quickly and efficiently.

As a keeper and how to set up your defensive unit.

It’s essential, you can have all the right tools but if you don’t know when to use the right one it’s not going to help.
